Title:On the minimal model program for generalized pairs

Abstract: Birational geometry aims to classify algebraic varieties up to birational equivalence, and the Minimal Model Program provides a method to achieve this classification. In this program, generalized pairs naturally appear in the canonical bundle formula when applying dimension induction. They were formally introduced by Birkar and Zhang in [BZ16] in their study of effective Iitaka fibrations, and have since become a central topic in modern birational geometry. This framework has played an important role in resolving several major conjectures, including the Borisov–Alexeev–Borisov conjecture and the McKernan–Shokurov conjecture. In this talk, we will start by recalling the Minimal Model Program for varieties and then explain how generalized pairs arise naturally in this context. We will then review and discuss some recent progress on the Minimal Model Program for generalized pairs, based on joint work with Jingjun Han, Jihao Liu, and Lingyao Xie.
