Biography

Emmanuel Lecouturier was born in France in 1991. He was a student at École Normale Supérieure (Paris) from 2011 to 2015. He obtained his Master degree at University Paris 6 in 2014 (now Sorbonne University), and his Ph.D degree at University Paris 7 (now University Paris Cité) in 2018 under the supervision of Prof. Loïc Merel. After his Ph.D, he joined the Yau Mathematical Sciences Center (Tsinghua University) as an Assistant Professor until January 2021. He got tenured there as an Associate Professor in February 2021, and also served as an adjunct faculty at the Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications until he joined the Institute for Theoretical Sciences, Westlake University in September 2024. Emmanuel Lecouturier was awarded the "Cours Peccot" (2020-2021) from Collège de France. He has also been a member as the Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton) in the Fall 2020 (online) and the Spring 2022 (offline).

Research

Emmanuel Lecouturier has been working in the field of Algebraic Number Theory, particularly on topics related to Eisenstein congruences. His Ph.D thesis was devoted to the study of Mazur's Eisenstein ideal and part of it was published in [1]. His thesis introduced the concept of "Higher Eisenstein elements", which are kinds of "generalized eigenvectors" for the Eisenstein ideal. More recently, he worked on arithmetic applications of the Eisenstein ideal theory, such as the arithmetic of L-functions (joint with Prof. J. Wang in [4]). His current main research interest lies in a conjecture of Prof. A. Venkatesh regarding "derived Hecke operators". He studied the case of weight one forms in [3] and is currently collaborating with Prof. L. Merel on related topics.
