Title: Machine Learning and Mathematics
Abstract: Machine learning and AI are rapidly transforming a wide range of scientific disciplines. Mathematics research is no exception. One can ask numerous questions, such as which areas of mathematics are likely to be more affected by AI, how academicians can get access to large compute required for running large language models, what are perspectives for collaboration between mathematicians and top AI companies.
A recent international workshop "Machine Learning and Mathematics" at KIAS, July 7-11 2025, organised by K.-H. Lee, B. Dong (BICMR, Peking University), and M. Douglas (CMSA, Harvard University) has attracted world leading experts in physics, mathematics, computer science, and industrial mathematics as speakers and participants to discuss the current state and near future developments of interaction between AI systems and mathematics research. It highlighted several cutting-edge developments.
This talk will provide an overview of the workshop, focusing on key results and emerging directions presented by the speakers.
